advocacy/advocate

advocacy: intercesion
advocate: intercesora

This is my favorite for general use, but in some contexts defensora or promotora might be a beter fit. I'm not a huge fan of abogacia because intercesion covers it, but doesn't get people thinking of it as something only done by abogados.

Interesting... We have generally used incidencia with our partners in Colombia.

I interpreted for a human rights conference a while back in Mexico. All of the Mexican human rights activists and lawyers were using the term: "hacer incidencia." It seems to be the most widespread term here. I like it. Pero para decir advocates siempre terminé diciendo "personas que hacen incidencia" lo cual no me agrada del todo.
