hollaback

hollaback: atrevete

The hollaback movement against street harassment has spread to Latin America and is growing. Atrevete is obviously not a direct translation, but is what they are using for the movement. Not what I would have chosen, but hey, it's what I'll use. Check out the Buenos Aires site.

Just curious, what would have you chosen? I'm trying to come up with good alternatives too, just for the sake of it.

Hello! I am Inti Maria, director of the Buenos Aires Hollaback. Thanks for linking to us! We discussed using 'Responda!' but some people were not into it. I like it. Atrévete works better in some countries than others. In Argentina it hasn't really caught on so well, so we still use Hollaback. Or rather people use it to refer to us. It is quite common here to use the English rather than the translated name, unlike in Mexico or Honduras.

Oh, P.S. we were quoted in this article today about the RAE and the use of non-sexist language. What do you think?
