In a social justice context socios does not work, since it implies business associate, not social change organization we work together with. I've noticed lately that several groups, like Diakonia and Oxfam, use copartes.
thanks to Silvia for pointing out that aliados is another option, more common in the bay area in the US. I've never seen it used in this way in Colombia though, particularly not for two organizations where one funds the other, or offers nonviolent protection to the other.
